Meet our Blog Team.

  • Erica Butler (she/they)

    VP INTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS

Hi everyone, my name is Erica! I am a queer, cis-gendered woman, who grew up in London, Ontario Canada. I am currently attending McGill University with many of these other lovely blog writers. I am double majoring in international development and gender studies, with the hope of pursuing social work or law in the future! I’m really passionate about sexual and reproductive health, but I’m especially interested in topics surrounding menstrual equity and queer sexual health. This is my first year working for Sex and Self and I am excited to be serving as vice president of Internal Communications. A fun fact about me is I was a band kid in high school and played the euphonium (baby tuba) for six (6) years (years!) of my life. I can’t lie, I loved every minute of it.

  • Nicole Amir (she/her)

    CORE WRITER / EDITOR

Hey, I’m Nicole and I’m a queer cis woman from Montreal! I actually graduated from McGill last spring, but loved working with this organization and these lovely people so much that I’m continuing on this year. Last year I was a part of Bodies A to Z teaching sex education in high school, which was incredible, but this year I’m going to be writing for the blog! After graduating from Cognitive Sciences with a Minor in Gender Studies, I am now a Master’s student at Dalhousie for Speech-Language Pathology. I’m so excited to write on the blog this year so I can continue learning and writing about all things gender, sexuality, sex education, social justice, and more! As a fun fact and recommendation I always give to my friends, my favourite book is Wordslut: A Feminist Guide to the English Language by Amanda Montell, which combines my love for linguistics, language, and power with gender studies - go give it a read!

  • Jacob Williams (he/him)

    CORE WRITER

Hey there! My name is Jacob and grew up in the Suburbs of Toronto Mississauga, living now in Montreal studying at McGill for my 3rd year. At Sex and Self I work for the Social media team and am an educator volunteer for Bodies A-Z since the start of Fall 2021. I love Queer Theory and Youth Studies, and am hoping to go to grad school to publish my own Feminist, youth-positive and Queer informed research. A fun fact about me is I listen to at least 7 hours of music a day, mostly Indie, rap, lofi, and classic rock. There is so much great queer and sex-positive music out there that it is frankly part of my Feminist practice and literally informs my work. I’m on a ‘soft queer indie’ kick right now and would highly recommend Caroline Rose, Cavetown, Samia, Indigo De Souza, and especailly Rosie Tucker.

  • Cayden Nelson (he/him)

    CORE WRITER

Heyy, I’m Cayden and I’m a Non-Binary man from Montreal. This is my first year working with Sex and Self and I couldn’t be more excited to learn as well as teach about all things gender and sex-related! It’s always been a dream of mine to be able to put my experiences, knowledge and support about gender identity and sexuality into the world.
