Our Mission.
Sex and Self is a student run registered not-for-profit organization that aims to provide individuals with educational seminars, workshops, events, and resources pertaining to sexual and reproductive health and wellness.
We strive to encourage individuals to achieve agency over their bodies through educational empowerment, because we believe that NOBODY benefits from knowing LESS about their body.
WHO WE ARE:
Sex and Self is a youth-led sexuality education initiative founded at McGill University in May 2019, having evolved into a registered Canadian non-for-profit. This organization was created in response to both the barriers in accessing comprehensive, evidence-based, trauma-informed, intersectional knowledge of relevance to sexuality, and the vast extent of misinformation and stigma perpetuated by the present unstandardized provincial curriculums . We believe that it is a basic human right to have autonomy and agency over one’s body and sexuality. We aim to provide comprehensive sexual education through seminars and workshops for young people across Canada, while centering intersectionality, autonomy, and empowerment at the core of our work.
Alongside Sex and Self, we facilitate a high school outreach program called Bodies A to Z. This program caters to both high school and middle school curriculums in Montreal and surrounding areas. We believe all-inclusive, comprehensive sexuality education must begin before adulthood.
About the Founder
About the Founder
Felicia Gisondi is the founder and current Executive Director of Sex and Self. Felicia completed her Bachelor of Education from McGill University in 2022 and is currently pursuing her Master of Science at McGill University. In her sophomore year, Felicia had the idea to create an organization that would pave the way for modernized and inclusive sexual education, something she realized was lacking on university campuses in Canada. With the support of the Mary H. Brown Endowment Fund, Felicia created Sex and Self in hopes of bridging the knowledge gaps that surrounded navigating sex and sexual health in adolescence. Since its conception in 2019, Sex and Self has grown to over 10,000 individuals across Canada and has also created spin-off initiatives such as the Bodies A-Z and Modern Manhood to expand her mission to Montreal classrooms. Felicia continues to be a trailblazer in the Sexual and Reproductive Health sphere and aims to continue her work of promoting comprehensive and modernized sexual and reproductive health education in Canada.
